The University of Minnesota School of Dentistry invites applications for our Assistant Dean for Admissions!

This is a faculty position that will be appointed at the rank and track appropriate for the finalist's experience and qualifications.

The Assistant Dean for Admissions is responsible for all aspects of recruitment and admissions, directing the admissions process from inquiry through enrollment. 

They will provide collaborative and strategic leadership to coordinate initiatives that increase student recruitment, facilitate student admissions, and lead the School of Dentistry in meeting its goals for matriculating diverse classes of students that promotes an inclusive learning environment.  

The Assistant Dean for Admissions will have the ability to cultivate school-wide policy and admissions protocols to recruit and retain the best and the brightest learners for our programs. The Assistant Dean serves as an advisor to the School of Dentistry leadership, and reports directly to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

The Assistant Dean for Admissions will be a collaborative partner with the Assistant Dean for Student and Resident Affairs and the Associate Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to create, cultivate, and nurture an institutional environment for learners that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and has a sense of belonging.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Strategic Leadership and Supervision

• Supervise and provide leadership to the admissions staff members
• Lead the development of recruitment strategies (both short and long term) and appropriate processes to ensure a diverse student body
• Supervises and initiate recruitment activities for a diverse student body within the Pre-doctoral DDS, dental therapy, and dental hygiene programs.
• Manage the budget for the Admissions Office in consultation with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

• Lead the Pre-doctoral DDS Admissions Committee

Planning and Service

• Represent the SOD on university and national level committees focusing on cultural competency, student recruitment, diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Track and provide pertinent data for accreditation documents, outcome assessments, and ADA and ADEA reports.
• Collaborate and consult with the DH, DT, and PASS Admissions Committees
• Manage application cycle for the Pre-doctoral DDS program, and support the PASS program, the dental therapy program, and the dental hygiene program application cycles.
• Collaborate with the office of Student and Resident Affairs for student event planning (e.g. student orientation, scholarship selection)

• DDS, DMD, PhD, EdD or equivalent terminal degree
• 5 years of experience in admissions and recruitment or related field
• 2-4 years of leadership experience
• Experience working with faculty, school administration, and students
• Knowledge of oral health curriculum and undergraduate minimum requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supervising staff and chairing committees
• Training in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
• Experience implementing enrollment management plans (tracking enrollment)
• Experience in developing and implementing recruitment programs
• Experience in academic advising
• Knowledge of dental school academic processes
• Competencies supporting the recruitment of diverse applicants
